Laguna Madre Nature Trail and Birding Center, at the South Padre Island Convention Center. 956-748-3607 Next to the Convention Centre and Whaling Wall No. 53, the Laguna Madre Nature Trail is a 1,500-foot boardwalk that extends across four acres of wetlands. Containing informative signs about dune systems and bird species that frequent the area, the nature trail provides visitors with the opportunity to observe many species of birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The idea of the Laguna Madre Nature Trail was conceived by naturalist Ed Hawkins. It is dedicated to his memory. Both the Whaling Wall and nature trail are always open to the public free of charge and can be accessed through the circle driveway leading up to the Convention Centre. The South Padre Island Convention Centre is located at 7355 Padre Blvd. at the north end of town. The new Birding Center include a boardwalk, seven bird blinds and a five-story tower with views of the Laguna Madre and the Gulf of Mexico. Map powered by MapPress

Great family activity, kids love it! Year-round instruction at Isla Blanca Park by the jetty. All ages, swimming skills not required as lessons are taught in shallow water. Safe soft surfboards provided. Family and group discounts. Taught by Texas original and only professional surfing instructors and ocean safety experts Gene and Rachel Gore, and their children Micah and Melia. Pictures of your surfing lesson available for purchase. Free lunch and tshirts with surf camp. Reservations required. Surfboard rentals also available with free delivery and pickup. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to surf with us, we work with Make-a-Wish and many other non-profits. No group too large, convention, church or sports teams, catering and custom shirts available for private group sessions. We do not have a retail store or shop, we specialize only in surfing instruction. Sea Turtle Inc, 6617 Padre Boulevard, South Padre Island, TX 78597 956-761-4511 Sea Turtle, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 1978, was the home of Ila Loetscher, known by many as the “Turtle Lady.” Ms. Loetscher dedicated her life to saving and rehabilitating sea turtles, including the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle. Educational shows featuring the turtles are given on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. A donation of $2 is requested at the door. Also visit the Turtle Store, Jewelry, Clothing, Books, and more.
